Youth Advisory Board
Meeting Minutes
11/4/10
Page 3of 3
Megan V. went to the Cultural Council Meeting.
They mostly discussed changes to their charter. Every board is adjusting
their charters to incorporate similar themes.
***Find the YAB charter. If we don’t have one, we need one. Talk about
this at our next meeting.
Sam-we have a really flat roof at the Rec. Center. She wonders if the YAB can
sponsor a rooftop garden? Frost-could be a great research project.
X.Comments from Liaisons
Frost-just finished working on the LSV budget. They have not cut anything new,
but have not restored anything that was previously cut. The Use Tax will be of
immense benefit to LSV.
th
Kriska-There will be a Teen Movie night at the library on November 19@6pm.
Showing “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and serving pizza, soda and popcorn.
Kriska-suggested that the YAB could work on putting together a booklet to hand
out all over the community (in schools,at the Rec. Center, city hall, library, etc.)
that lists all the possible places for young people to volunteer in the area. We
know so many students need volunteer hours for a variety of reasons, and it
seems like the same places get overwhelmed withoffers to help, but they can’t
accept so many, or such short term commitments. I envision a booklet with the
YAB logo, perhaps broken into categories such as “Animals” and “Environmental
Causes.” We could use a template for each place contacted, so the information
was organized uniformly. Important things to note would be: name, address,
phone number, contact person, age required, etc. This could be a lasting
contribution to the youth community in LSV. What do you think?
--Definitely put this on the agenda to discuss at our next meeting.
Mandy-was contacted about an April project-Keep it Clean Day. Discuss at
next mtg.
Lucas-in California they had a big spring project called “Make a Difference Day”
where everyone showed up to clean the elementary school.
XI.Discussion items for next meeting
1.)Parade plans
2.)City Planning Dept. will talk about places to hang out in downtown
3.)YAB Charter
4.)Rec. Center rooftop garden-research?
5.) Volunteer Handbook
6.) April Keep it Clean Day
XII. Adjourn-8:09pm
