Board Questions to Applicant:
Member Shiker:
Q. My understanding of your objection to coming out the south is because it's going to
project out too much even though the sun room on the southeast side projects out?
A. Romero: There was a kind of a balance. My feeling is when you look at the front of the
house you see protrusions, but they're in balance. They're about the same width, they
come out, and I think that looks okay. To create another mass on that west side would
mean destroying kind of the appeal of that entry room, which sort of stands out. To
create more of a mass on the west side, I don't think would look very good, it's also kind
of a distance from the kitchen.
Member Menezes:
Q. Is the area the living area where the pot belly stove is -- Is that part of the original
structure ?
A. It's about 12 to 15 years old.
Member Brown:
Q. Other than the aesthetic reasons regarding coming toward the front of the house, is there
zoning problem. Would they need a variance?
A. Johnstone: No variance would be needed.
Romero: It doesn't look very good.
Q. From a structural point of view is that a problem?
A. Romero: The roof line would change. From my standpoint it is also a fair distance from
the kitchen.
Member Menezes:
Q.
A.
Q.
A.
On the north side which is another side yard, what is the setback there?
Johnstone: It would be a seven foot setback.
So the closest portion of the house to the property line is 20 feet.
Yes.
Member Metsker:
Q. We're asking that they maintain that 20 feet now if we grant this variance?
7
