2.1 Architectural Significance and Construction History
Architectural Description:
1209 Main Street is a one-story wood -framed Bungalow form residential property on a large 100' x
250' lot on the west side of Main Street, north of downtown Louisville, Colorado.
The property is primarily rectangular in form, oriented gable -front towards Main Street. The primary
footprint of the building is covered with a Jerkinhead, or clipped gable, roof with a brick chimney
centrally located on the ridge line. There is a three -quarter -width centered front porch featuring a roof
that mimics the style of the primary roof, heavy tapered columns that are coated with stucco, and a
half -height solid -wall railing. Fascia and soffit on the property are wrapped with non -historic sheet
metal, obscuring any remaining original details. The walls of the property are covered with a non -
historic vinyl and sheet metal siding product. There are two protrusions from the primary rectangular
block, a shed roof partial -depth protrusion on the south elevation, and a shed roof half -width
protrusion on the rear, west elevation. The windows are predominately wood, three -over -one
double -hung windows with spring -pin stays with wood casing.
Construction History:
Building was constructed ca.1909. The building retains its original construction site.
The footprint of the building matches the 1948 Assessor card, indicating that no major structural
modifications were made after that time. There is some evidence that there were modifications prior
to 1948, those being:
• An exterior basement window obstructed by the current stairs to the basement. The stairs to
the basement are within the south side shed roof protruding portion of the building
3: Basement window is bisected by the main level landing to the basement stairs
1209 Main Street Page
