BRaD
Nleeting Summary
December 6, 2010
PRESENTATION - PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS -
Gavin McMillan, City Planner, presented an update on the Downtown Parking and Pedestrian
Action Plan. A brief overview of each proposed project was presented. Currently, the Planning
Department is meeting with City Boards and Commissions and presenting the Plan and getting
comments and feedback. Meetings will continue through the first half of December, with a public
meeting scheduled for December 16, at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. Following
these meetings, staff will compile everyone's comments. The Plan will be presented to the
Planning Commission at their January 13th meeting and to Council for adoption on January 18th
along with the priorities, estimated costs and timelines for each project.
Comments from BRAD members on the plan are listed below:
• Proposed project in the north parking lot of the Steinbaugh Pavilion was not acceptable to
some BRAD members who pointed out that the improvements suggested would be in
conflict with the downtown street faire, and members want a more flexible space to still allow
for winter skate. The Planning Department staff was in support of a more flexible design to
accommodate winter skate, street faire and summer time use.
• Include the proposed underpass over Hwy. 42 and factor in the revitalization plans.
• Make parking a high priority by installing the proposed signage.
• Members were in support of the permanent patios on Main Street, but restaurant owners
would like to see the tables closer to their establishment; would like to see the permanent
patio project to be a high priority project.
CTC TRAIL UPDATE — Rob Lathrop gave an update. The desirable location of the trail would be
on the north side of CTC between CTC and Hwy. 42. The exact location of the trail and associated
costs need to be identified. Joe Stevens, Parks and Recreation Director, has requested a cost and
feasibility study for the proposed trail. Rob will present an update on the status of this project at
the January BRAD meeting.
RETENTION VISITS OVERVIEW:
AWR — AWR is a small software company located in the Centennial Valley working on RF
technology; works on military contracts and others; currently employs approximately 12 people in
the Louisville location.
Plexus — Plexus offers mechanical, electronic, software design and prototyping services, just to
name a few, of the many services they provide in the area of electronic manufacturing.
