HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: <br />Information provided by historian Bridget Bacon <br />The house was built in 1932 as a single family residence. There were 3 primary <br />families who owned this residence from 1932 to 1999: John and Katie Porta, Pasqual <br />and Loretta Jacoe, and Percy and Carolyn Conarroe. The current owner purchased the <br />property in 1999. <br />LANDMARK APPROVAL: <br />The Louisville City Council approved the landmark application for 1131 Jefferson <br />Avenue, by a vote of 7-0, on September 21, 2010. <br />PREVIOUS GRANTS: <br />On December 21, 2010, the Louisville City Council approved a grant in the amount of <br />$7,719 for gutter repair, trim repair and replacement, pressure washing, caulking, <br />carport repair, and removal of ivy (to allow for exterior painting). <br />REQUEST: <br />The applicant, Janice Hoffman, is requesting the approval of a Preservation and <br />Restoration Grant and Alteration Certificate to allow for exterior site and structural <br />improvements. The primary issue is a low spot on the rear of the house where <br />drainage/run-off, from surrounding properties, ponds and ultimately drains into the <br />basement. <br />The current scope of work includes the following (descriptions as provided by the <br />applicant’s contractor): <br />A. – the grade of the back patio has shifted in many <br />Drainage issue on back porch <br />areas creating a negative drain towards the south side of the house. Whenever <br />we have a significant rain or snowfall, the water drains into the house and floors <br />the corner of the basement. Install a sump pump to collect the water. <br />Solution: <br />Estimate: $5,500 <br />B. – the existing concrete <br />Take up, remove and dispose of concrete pathways <br />pathway needs to be removed to correct drainage and install sump pump. <br />Estimate: $820 <br />(Labor=$600, Concrete removal=$220) <br />C. – Two large, old trees on the property. Their <br />Trim trees and remove branches <br />limbs are touching the house. <br />Estimate: $200 <br />D.- Repair, remove and replace roof (including trusses), sheeting and <br />Roof <br />shingles. <br />2 <br />
