Louisville Sustainability Advisory BoardMeeting Minutes –December 15,2010Page 3of 4
Arno suggested we have a corner of the quarterly Community Update. Colin said that
perhaps we could talk about city water usage. Arno suggested that we offer systems for
water sprinklers/incentives for timer systems. Tom said that could be problematic.
IX. Livable Cities Presentation
Mary Ann presented the revised version of the Livable Citiespresentation. Andy asked
what she wastrying to accomplish. Mary Ann said education of principles, outreach to
other boards and committees, city staff, and affiliated groups such as Transition Louisville.
Also, through meeting with these groups, identification of ongoing related activities
throughout the city that include these principles/we should support. Andy said she should
talk with city staff. She will revise her action plan and submit for the next meeting.
Colin said she should download “Prezi” software free and drop the presentations into it.
Mary Ann said she will send it to Colin for to him to revise from PowerPoint to Prezi –that
would be more expedient. Colin will do so by 1.24.11
X.Follow-up Discussion from December Meeting
City Council Study Session -
Arno said that Mary Ann will give the presentation to the
Council this year. She will distribute her Livable Citiespresentation to the board for
final feedback. Each person will forward a summary of his or her 2010 activities to
th
Mary Ann by January 24. Mary Ann will take all summaries and develop a handout for
Council members. This will be distributed to all board members for review and
comment prior to the meeting.
Downtown Parking Plan
–There was a discussion of whether to endorse the city’s
downtown parking plan as presented by Troy Russ at the December meeting. It was
decided that Arno will write a “we endorse the plan” letter, send it through Kerry to the
board for review and comment, then to the Council.
PV Panels at water Treatment Plant -
RJ Harrington, citizen and Transition Louisville
representative, spoke in favor of the PV panels at the water treatment plant. He was
concerned about negative comments two council members made. He was concerned
about the Daily Camera comments about the project. He decided against a letter to
editor saying comments were biased. He proposed moving forward with an education
approach. He would like to put a positive face on the decision by Council. He is
thinking about various ways to web interface the PV panel project and proposed living
documentation of the process with Bella Energy and Tom Phare and staff -taking
photos throughout the project. Bella says he can take photos of the delivery of the
equipment etc. He is willing to gather data from homes which shows that payback for
such systems is possible. He suggested a mini documentary and kiosk at the library
that shows the project’s process. Transition Louisville is holding a meeting 1.20.11 and
they will conduct fund raising for the education project. He had a video company lined
up to do pro bono work. And a donation for a flat panel screen and computer to use.
His timeframe for installation is completion by June. PV modules arrive within
February. Bella will stage the project and start soon after that. Arno suggested asking
citizens ask to volunteer to have links to their PV systems on their homes in the video
so people could track usage. We could also put a solar energy section on webpage of
the LSAB. Mr. Harrington stressed that he wanted the board’s support for the
education project but admitted that he did not have many firm details. Transition
Louisville was meeting the next night and he said that LSAB members should attend.
