Criteria and Standards Met?
8. d. Most properties change over time; those
changes that have acquired historic
significance in their own right shall be retained
and preserved.
8. e. Distinctive features, finishes and
construction techniques or examples of
craftsmanship that characterize a property shall
be preserved.
Yes
Yes
8. f. Deteriorated historic features shall be Yes
repaired rather than replaced. When the
severity of deterioration requires replacement
of a distinctive feature, the new feature shall
match the old in design, color, texture and other
visual qualities and, where possible, materials.
In the replacement of missing features, every
effort shall be made to substantiate the
structure's historical features by documentary,
physical, or pictorial evidence.
8. g. Chemical or physical treatments, such
as sandblasting, that cause damage to historic
materials shall not be used. The surface
cleaning of structures, if appropriate, shall be
undertaken using the gentlest means possible.
Evaluation
The carport to be removed was
added in 1985 and as such is not old
enough to have gained potential for
historic significance. The front porch
railings may have been added as
early as 1960. However, with the
rest of the house being restored and
preserved to an earlier period of
significance, the loss of the railings
facilitates bringing the home back to
an earlier period of significance.
No existing distinctive features are
proposed to be removed.
Request 4
The deteriorated wood windows are
proposed to be preserved rather
than removed.
N/A Damaging techniques are not
proposed for use on this project.
8. h. Significant archaeological resources N/A Significant archeological resources
affected by a project shall be protected and have not been identified on this
preserved. If such resources must be disturbed, property.
mitigation measures shall be undertaken.
8. i. New additions, exterior alterations or
related new construction shall not destroy historic
materials that characterize the property. The new
work shall be differentiated from the old and shall
be compatible with the massing, size, scale, and
architectural features to protect the historic
integrity of the property and its environment.'
Yes
Requests 1 and 2
The proposed rear additions do not
destroy characterizing materials. Their
design differentiates them from the
historic portions of the buildings and
they are both one story and have a
minimal streetview impact.
