<br />City Council Business Retention & Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />November 6, 2006 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br /> <br />Brown reported that he had been in discussions with a second company that can <br />offer the gift card services, but added that he would like Hogan to undertake a <br />more thorough comparison of the two possible companies and report back the <br />group. Hogan asked if Lehman and Caranci would be willing to help in this <br />endeavor, both agreed. <br /> <br />Members were in agreement that any gift card promotion will need to be easy to <br />use for the merchants, or they won't support it. In addition, members added that <br />while this may start as a City function, it will eventually need to be taken over by <br />the business community. <br /> <br />Members established criteria on which they can base the discussion about <br />program implementation: <br />. Marketing <br />. Ease of compatibility for merchants <br />. Cost <br />. Auditing <br /> <br />Members also discussed using the Business Congress to help with the program. <br /> <br />REVIEW AND DISCUSS PROPOSED CONTRACT FOR SERVICES FOR 2007 <br /> <br />Members reviewed the proposed contract and agreed to forward it to the City <br />Council for final action with a recommendation to approve the contract. <br /> <br />REVIEW AND DISCUSS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT QUARTERLY <br />BENCHMARKS AND WORK PLAN <br /> <br />Members discussed the proposed benchmarks for 2007 as well as the work plan. <br />Members were in agreement with the proposal. <br /> <br />Members added a need for a meeting of the Business Congress in mid-January <br />and quarterly thereafter. They proposed the following items for the agenda for the <br />January meeting: <br />. State of the City <br />. Sign Code Presentation <br />. Shop Louisville Program <br />. Use Tax <br />. Role of the Business Congress <br /> <br />REVIEW AND DISCUSS DRAFT BUSINESS RETENTION PLAN <br /> <br />Hogan reviewed the plan highlighting the need for Committee members to get <br />out in the business community and talk with all the businesses about their <br />
