Library Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes
September 21 , 2006

D. Report on Discussion with Joseph Sikora

Alicia reported that Sikora has asked for information about the history of the Library
and discussed with her the concept of a mosaic of symbols that reflect how people
perceive and use a Library.

Alicia will speak with Sikora in the next week or two about developing this concept.
Before approval of any design direction, Sikora will provide a full-scale sketch for the
Board's consideration and approval.

E. Developments Regarding Forming Regional Library Authority or Library District
Anne noted that there were no new developments to report.

8. Director's Report

A. Summary of Library Grand Opening & Dedication

Elle Cabbage coordinated this event under the direction of Julie Boyd, Deputy City
Manager. The original scope of the event was scaled back due to scheduling
conflicts and financial constraints.

Karen prepared a list of invitees for Julie's review. Karen also produced and mailed
the postcard invitations.

Originally planned as an outdoor event, weather necessitated moving the festivities
indoors. Two local restaurants provided food and beverages; an assortment of
promotional items was on hand including balloons for children.

Anne noted that 400 people had signed the guest book.

B. Staffing and New Building Operations

Anne noted that the Library is operating with 14.5 FTE. According to Bill Knott,
Director of Jefferson County Public Libraries, the new Arvada library is opening with
22.5 FTE, which does not include technical services staff as that is handled centrally
for the district.

Circulation statistics for the month of August 7-September 7 indicate a 28%
increase. Anne noted that this likely reflects some pent-up demand and the activity
may decline. In the same time period, attendance was up 25% and 788 applications
for library cards were processed. Approximately 20-25% of those applications were
from Superior residents. A typical month yields a total of -250-280 library card
applications.

Use of self-checkout machines is at 53%, up from -15-20% at the old library.

Anne will update these statistics for the next regular meeting.

c. Statistics
The statistics were distributed and reviewed.
