Staff Updates <br />Abby's update - begins on page 15 of November PPLAB packet <br />11/6/24 - snow day - provided training to staff <br />John and Jody have some detailed questions about Abby's update - will ask at the end <br />Capital improvement request to upgrade irrigation controllers which are centrally controlled - can <br />be controlled from a tablet or a desktop. <br />Pine and Via Appia - removed plant material and arc walls due to concerns about blocked sight <br />lines <br />Verge mix - Jody asked for a breakdown, Abby provided a ppt via email with the following <br />breakdown: Grasses: Native Red Fescue, Blue Grama, Alkali grass, Canada Bluegrass. <br />Pollinators: California Poppy, Baby Blue Eyes, Birds Eyes, Yaak Yarrow. <br />The board reviewed a six page Japanese Beetle Fact sheet put out by CSU starting on page 17 <br />in the PPLAB November packet. <br />John Webb and Jody Ash asked can Parks and Landscaping provide advice on controlling <br />Japanese Beetles - this CSU write up is too long. PPLAB will provide a five or six line list of best <br />practices describing alternative methods which are more effective than pesticides with a link to <br />the long factsheet, <br />These beetles attack Serviceberries, concerned that the recommendation is to use pesticides <br />Jody has had success using traps for grubs - capturing thousands of beetles in the traps, <br />nematodes. <br />Patricia: suggestion to please include photos of what these alternative solutions look like <br />4 <br />
