Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
January 27, 2025
and Ryder agreed. Kathy asked if restricted gifts could be given as a donation
if a golf course foundation was created? This could be effective if there are
large donors who are interested. Adam stated that funding of baseball batting
cages was through acceptance of donations fully funding this need which
subsequently was approved by City Council for this specific use. We need to
acknowledge that other large capital improvement projects will compete for a
new clubhouse. Consider bringing this back to City Council again. David B
stated that securing water rights for the golf course means that we are not
dependent on city water.
• Recreation and Senior Center Updates — Kathy
Before Kathy shared updates on the Recreation and Senior Center, she
let us know that David Dean told her that the golf course horticulturalist
had been replaced.
Assembling schedule for this summer.
Sharon, our library director, and Fire Chief Wilson are both retiring.
Dick Friedson was voted in to help with interviews for David Baril's
replacement. Interviews start tentatively on February 19tn
Improved bocce courts at Memory square. Installed new bocce courts in
Community Park. Repairs to rollerblade rink are being made.
New Year's Day Sale generated $213,000, a significant increase from last
year. Gave away three annual memberships based on prize drawings.
Dick asked if the Rec Center is becoming too full? Kathy agreed that this
is becoming an issue. User conflicts occur and facility cleaning is
constantly needed.
Need for RAB workplan to be presented to City Council in March but could
be as early as February 25th or as late as April.
• Golf Updates — David Bari!
David listed several CIPs that were approved which will be designed and
constructed through RFPs including various physical improvements to the
club house (e.g., basement and new parking lights). Newly purchased
lithium battery golf carts will arrive this spring and will be much more
energy efficient and easier to maintain. Carts are expected to last ten
years but will be rotated out within six/seven years (i.e., life of the lithium
batteries).
