Section R402.1 General is amended by adding a new exception as <br />follows: <br />3. Tiny homes, as defined in the International Residential Code, <br />designed in accordance with Appendix BB of the International <br />Residential Code. <br />This amendment allows slab insulation to be omitted <br />in sunrooms and heated garages if full compliance <br />with other insulation requirements are met. In <br />retrofits in particular, slab insulation <br />requirements could necessitate complete demolition <br />of the slab floor. <br />[Flexibility and cost reduction] <br />7. Section R402.5.1.1 Sunroom and heated garage insulation is <br />amended by adding a new exception as follows: <br />3. Slab insulation shall be permitted to be omitted where the minimum <br />ceiling insulation R-values and minimum wall insulation R-values <br />are installed. <br />This amendment requires insulation installation to <br />meet a standard for high quality, while exempting <br />performance -based pathways that already account for <br />insulation effectiveness through modeling. Section R402.5.1.1 Installation is amended to read as follows: <br />R402.5.1.1 Installation. The components of the building thermal envelope <br />as indicated in Table R402.5.1.1 shall be installed in accordance with the <br />following: <br />1. The manufacturer's instructions. <br />2. The criteria indicated in Table R402.5.1.1, as applicable to the <br />method of construction. <br />3. For dwelling units complying with Section R401.2.1, the <br />reauirements of a Grade 1 insulation installation in accordance with <br />Appendix A of ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301. <br />
