Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
July 28, 2025
Public Comments on Items not on the Agenda
None
Staff Updates
• Cultural Services Director-Brandi Cummings
Lisa: we need your help with ideas for promoting new clubhouse construction.
Brandi: I understand we need to broaden public appeal as a community center.
This may be challenging given the current footprint of the existing clubhouse.
One recommendation: consider a separate nonprofit to raise revenue. Which City
Boards might this nonprofit support? I can help with fundraising strategies.
Consider who your target audience is and what messages may resonate with
them. Think about how clubhouse services could enrich the community and the
synergy with the City Cultural Center as a joint use space.
Dick: The current clubhouse is able to generate its own revenue. It's not clear if
grassroots funding would make up the difference in funding we need. I don't think
we can raise enough money to support multi use facilities.
Michele: Diana Langley's message last month was that we need to collaborate
more with other interests including other City Boards.
Brandi: I agree that we would need a much bigger space for multi -use including
an art center, etc.
Angie: I thought we were considering focusing on services tied to the existing
clubhouse?
Dick: I agreed with Angie. This would include a clubhouse restaurant.
Douglas: Was the new Louisville Library mostly funded by a nonprofit
Foundation?
Several RAB members recalled that, no, it was mostly tax dollars.
Brandi: there are some cities (Kenosha, WI where I lived) where significant funds
from foundations/non-profits were raised as a primary source of funding to build
new city facilities. Over 800 entities in Kenosha, including private citizens and
corporations, contributed.
