Sustainability Advisory Board <br />June 15, 2011 Meeting Minutes <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />to end up on a dinner plate; avg. is 1500 miles; 95% of Boulder County money goes out <br />of County for food). <br />Drawbacks (all): More irrigation (burden on City water which may tie into a policy <br />assessment on regulation of water); risk of blighted fruit trees (diseases); reduction of <br />open space (competition between open space and agriculture); attraction of vermin; <br />abandonment of agricultural land; spreading of GMO crops. <br />Other issues brought up by the group included: liability of gardening in streets and right <br />of ways (Dave Szabados). Need to add processing and preparation of livestock and <br />poultry to "animal production Add irrigation practices under farming. Add permaculture <br />under both residential and commercial production. Add land development to land <br />development. <br />Under Administration the following items were suggested: USDA requirements, GMO <br />requirements, organic requirements, soil health maintenance (crop rotation). <br />It was suggested to add a #6 line item, Education to include information on benefits, re- <br />skilling, and networking. There should also be a section on utility interface not digging <br />in areas of utility lines. <br />IX. Solar -Homes Tour update and LSAB's Action Plan, Solar PV Kiosk (Andy) <br />Andy provided update on the Tour of Sustainable Homes, and gave an expanded look at <br />the Tour based on meeting with the Center for ReSource Conservation. The expanded <br />Tour is going to be considering community programs (i.e. Habitat for Humanity), <br />gardening /local food, transportation, zero waste, resource conservation. Each home will <br />be considered a tour stop with a specific theme. All homes will have a common theme <br />with Boulder County's EnergySmart program. Other tour stops will include the Transition <br />Louisville Community Garden, local businesses, and the City of Louisville's Waste Water <br />Treatment Building. <br />The tour is October 2 <br />Andy indicated that the Tour headquarters is not to be an expo -like setup, but rather an <br />interactive display of sustainable living practices. Memory Square, Steinbaugh Pavillion <br />and Lucky Pie have been identified as possible Tour headquarters. The Tour will be <br />largely focused on a path in and around Old Town Louisville. <br />A request for volunteers was suggested for the City website. Another suggestion was to <br />have Monarch Environmental Club high school students back again to help with the <br />event. <br />Assignments: <br />Mark Persichetti volunteered to head up governmental sustainability programs, including <br />waste reduction, ReSource Tool library coordination. <br />Cullen Arno volunteered to help with the Science Fair portion of the Tour to help <br />integrate kids into the event. <br />
