COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING, CITY MANAGER <br />DATE: JANUARY 10, 2012 <br />SUBJECT: CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING, CITY COUNCIL RETREAT <br />ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE <br />SUMMARY: <br />Please find attached an agenda for the City Council retreat scheduled for January 10, 2012 at <br />5:00 PM in the Library Conference Room. Sam Mamet, Executive Director of the Colorado <br />Municipal League, will be the facilitator of City Council's discussion this evening. <br />After introductions and some initial comments, staff would like to hear City Council's view on <br />Key Issues the City faces and how the City might address them. To assist City Council in the <br />discussion, staff has prepared a "brainstorm" of Key Issues potentially affecting the City <br />organized into Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT). During the retreat <br />Sam Mamet will ask City Council to discuss, revise, add or delete staff's brainstorm list to <br />provide a context for discussion on Goals. <br />Once the SWOT conversation is complete, we will move on to Goals and Objectives. Using the <br />identified SWOT issues as context, staff would like the City Council to identify and prioritize the <br />Goals that Council wants to achieve. City Council may want to specify which Goals are short <br />term (within the next two years) and longer term. With the Goals identified and prioritized, staff <br />will prepare a Work Plan /Action Plan for further discussion /review at a following Study Session <br />and /or City Council meeting. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />N/A <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Discussion /Direction /Action <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />1.
