Building Code Board of Appeals
Meeting Minutes
May 17, 2012

last 6-9 months and then another 6-9 months to
enforce all of the changes. Robert suggested we only
adopt parts or just make amendments to keep up with
the changes. Also to have builders build to the
minimum, but still accept all of the newer codes. Gary
suggested a way to make it cost effective to
contractors, but to watch for adverse effects. And to
possibly make a handout to give contractors with their
permits. Mike pointed out the City of Boulder already

has a green points program.
Update

Mobile Home Ordinance
– Staff has heard back from the City
Attorney and they are currently researching other jurisdictions
mobile home ordinances. It will most likely be the next thing to be
reviewed once the review of the 2012 codes is completed. The
ordinance we currently have is not enforceable and the code

change will help in cleaning up the mobile home park.

Inspection card/Permit Application
– Staff has been drafting a
Request for Proposal (RFP) for new software. However, it has put
on hold. Staff continues to look into what would make the

inspection cards and permits more user friendly.
Staff Comments
– The City is looking to moving the Building Department back
by the Planning Department to help with customer service and the
help staff in the ability to cross-train and coverage for staff member
that are out. The Building Department should see the drawing for
the new tennis center in 30 days. The drawings will include the
club house and tennis courts indoors and outdoors. There will be a
phase one and a phase two in this process. Pearl Izumi has plans
to move into the CTC area. There are many ideas for the usage of
the old Sam’s Club including a possible training center for Wal-
Mart. The PUD was finished last month for the Conoco/Phillips
buildings. The current proposal for the Safeway redevelopment is
back to City Council. City Council can either vote or send it back to
Planning Commission for further review.
Board Comments
– None
Date of next meeting
– On July 24, 2012, there will be a joint study session with
City Council at the library. Board of Appeals members should be
there if they are available. The meeting will be the Boards chance
to discuss the possible change regarding the 2012 code with City

Council.
Discussion Items for Next Meeting
– Mike will have a current report for the
Board. The current subdivisions are going great and there is more
new work going on at CTC. The Board members are asked to
