City Council
Meeting Minutes
August 7, 2012
Council member Keany asked if the resolution states the City's intention to dispose of
the elevator once it is acquired. Economic Development Director DeJong noted that
language is in Section 3 of the ordinance.
Council member Yarnell stated whatever option the Council chooses, the City will be in
the same place.
Council member Jasiak felt this is a difficult decision. She thanked the City Staff and the
developer. She felt preserving the grain elevator would enhance the south part of town.
Council member Keany noted there will be changes in Council members in the next two
years. He stated if it is the intent of this City Council for the property to be privately
owned and developed, they should proceed with that action.
Mayor Muckle noted the preservation of the grain elevator has not recently arrived as an
issue. He stated the question is what the taxpayers want the Council to do with the
Historic Preservation Funds. He reviewed the options for preservation grants and the
goals for the use of the building. He acknowledged the City may spend more money
than projected.
Council member Loo voiced her appreciation to Michael Krantzdorf and Eric Hartroft for
their work on this project. She agreed the grain elevator is an historic building, but the
project is a want not a need. She felt the project will take a lot of staff time and City
money and the City does not have the expertise to develop this project.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Mary Kay Knorr, 1209 LaFarge, Louisville, CO stated moving the grain elevator is not
preservation.
Ashley Stolzmann, 370 S. Taft Ct., Louisville, CO felt the City is giving away an asset.
Bob Lilienfeld, 1033 Adams, Louisville, CO urged Council to deny this project.
Michael Menaker, 1827 W. Choke Cherry Drive, Louisville, CO noted the stay on the
demolition permit on the property has expired. He asked how much money the City is
willing to spend on this project and noted the grain elevator is a liability, not an asset.
He felt it was an emotional decision, one made by the heart. He suggested charging
interest on the loan from the General Fund.
Mayor Muckle closed the public hearing.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
