Library Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes —DRAFT
NOVEMBER 8, 2012
Additional changes to the objectives were proposed and agreed upon.
Beth noted that the Board could vote on the revisions at the next meeting and
asked what other types of information the Board wants to include in the 2013
plan. Shari noted that the historical perspective included in previous plans is
important but could be edited and then updated annually. Beth noted that the
Library Research Service statistics also provide important perspective and
context and will be included in the 2013 plan.
C. Policy Review
1) Service Policy
At its September meeting, the Board agreed that the revised policy also needed to
include a statement regarding patron confidentiality. Beth prepared the
modification, and the policy was unanimously approved by the Board.
2) Code of Conduct
The policy has been further modified to include statements regarding usage of
both children's and teen areas. After a brief discussion, the Board unanimously
agreed to adopt the revised policy with two minor changes.
D. iHelp Outreach Program
Aimee reported that the first iHelp outreach at the Recreation Center (Rec) was not
well -attended. However, the second outreach on Nov. 7 at Vic's coffee shop was very
well received and lots of fun. Based on feedback, many participants were not aware
that the Library had downloadable content. In the future, the iHelp program plans to
piggyback with the Senior Center's computer programming classes on Tuesdays and
Fridays.
E. Recap on City Council Study Session
The Library Board of Trustees' annual summary was made by Sherri and Meredith. Sherri
produced and Meredith delivered a comprehensive and well -organized PowerPoint
presentation that was commended by the Council.
VIII. Director's Report
A. Boopsie App
The Library now has a mobile application (app), which was developed by Boopsie Inc.
and launched on October 25. The app allows users of Apple and Android devices to
check accounts and renew items, search the catalog and place requests, access the
event calendar, get help via phone or email, and connect to the Library's Facebook and
Twitter accounts. The Daily Camera and Colorado Hometown News picked up the
Library press release.
B. 'On The Same Page' Wrap-up
Beth noted that the programs were very good but two conflicted with election debates
and bad weather. Planned upgrades to the Library meeting room including the ability to
record and distribute this type of programming via Channel 8, will make reaching our
patrons much easier in these circumstances.
The selected book circulated very well, particularly considering there was no
participation by Lafayette due to their remodeling and website redesign projects. There
was also more limited publicity for this second year of the program. Based on this, costs
