Louisville City Council Meeting <br />May 7, 2002 <br />Page 2 <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA <br /> <br />Robert H. Pierce, 1827 Eisenhower Drive, Louisville, CO, addressed the issue of <br />pornography on cable TV and distributed written material and a video tape recording to <br />members of Council. He reported on a PBS program, which stated that American <br />pornography is a billion dollar business and is sponsored by prominent corporations. He <br />asked Council to review the video tape recording, which was broadcasted by the local <br />cable television service provider. He stated that cable television is the greatest supplier of <br />pornography. <br /> <br />Eric Slack, 866 West Tamarisk Street, Louisville, CO stated that his children play in-line <br />hockey and he urged Council to commence planning for an in-line hockey facility in <br />Louisville. He stated his understanding that the City has a site and budget for the facility. <br /> <br />Davidson asked Interim Parks & Recreation Director Keith Williams to update Mr. <br />Slack's on the planning status for an in-line skating facility. <br /> <br />Williams stated that the proposed site is within the 15-acre parcel that will house the new <br />Police facility and that the in-line skating facility appears in the 2003 Capital Project <br />budget. <br /> <br />Hannah Schwartz, 6111 Reserve Drive, Boulder, CO, addressed the issue of smoking in <br />public places and restaurants. She noted that second-hand smoke is a health hazard and is <br />the number one cause of death in the United States. She stated that the City of Louisville <br />would greatly benefit from adopting non-smoking legislation and urged the Council to <br />adopt smoking regulations similar to the City of Boulder. <br /> <br />Davidson commented that the City of Louisville has a Smoking Task Force working on <br />the issue and the Council will consider a non-smoking ordinance in June. <br /> <br />COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON <br /> THE AGENDA <br /> <br />Davidson reported that the City of Louisville was awarded the designation of Tree City <br />USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the 21 st consecutive year. <br /> <br />REGULAR BUSINESS <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION - OLDER AMERICANS MONTH <br /> <br />Mayor Davidson proclaimed May 2002, as Older Americans Month in the City of <br />Louisville and presented the Proclamation to Louisville Senior Board Members; Jim <br />Purfurst, Pat McNutt, Dolores Gagne, Sheila Newton, Harriett Olson, Walt Ochlkers and <br />Art Symanski, President. <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br />
