Open Space Advisory Board
Meeting Notes
August 14th, 2013
action plan could be incorporated into a more comprehensive
management plan at a later date.
OSAB would like to see an action plan developed in the short term, with a
more comprehensive management plan to follow.
City Council has directed OSAB to develop a coyote plan.
Staff drafted a plan based on the Parks and Wildlife template as few
years ago. This plan was not approved. OSAB would like feedback from
the City Manager as to why this plan was not approved so that revisions
can be made. OSAB is requesting that staff provide a copy of the original
plan to Tom and that Tom draft and submit a letter to the City Manager’s
office.
Enforcement authority – Police Department and Colorado Parks and
Wildlife will need to have effective communication and clear roles.
Currently Open Space has a role in coyote education and forwarding
information to the Police Department and Colorado Parks and Wildlife
when there are concerns. The Police Department is responsible for
public safety and enforcement of leash laws.
Public Education is necessary, especially related to not feeding wildlife.
Bedell, 662 W. Willow St. - Asked if there is a recent study about the
current status of the coyote population.
Ember: There is a study underway called the “Denver Metro Area
Coyote Behavior Study” Broomfield and Aurora are involved in the
study. Broomfield has also brought in a number of experts to
review coyote concerns in Broomfield and these experts drafted a
report that can be found on Broomfield’s website.
X.
