Meredyth Muth will contact them with training date and time. <br />CENTENNIAL VALLEY HISTORY PRESENTATION: <br />Economic Development Director DeJong gave a presentation about the history of Centennial <br />Valley and how it was developed. The area is 866 acres and generally defined as the southwest <br />portion of Louisville. In August of 1979 the Homart Mall was approved. In 1982 plans for the <br />mall were abandoned. Homart worked with Planners and on 12/6/1983 a new development was <br />approved. This Ordinance was repealed on 3/20/1984 siting too much housing and not enough <br />commercial development. The zoning change again on 4/17/1984, adding open space and <br />solidified the Recreation Center land. This plan has been amended several times since. Moving <br />forward will continue to be challenges, notably: <br /> Caps on different land uses <br /> Fractured ownership <br /> Reducing the auto dominated feel <br />Councilmember Lipton noted that Centennial Valley was done before Interlocken. Interlocken <br />took away some of the allure that Centennial Valley had. The technology bust for the 1990s hurt <br />the area. He also noted that the .25 mile buffer had to be repealed by ordinance in order to <br />allow the theater, Outback and Home Depot area. <br />Commissioner Menaker commented that walkability is a continuing issue we hear about. <br />Chair Dalton and Menaker discussed whether area is encumbered by a zoning or financing <br />issue. Dalton said it will be a Small Area Plan discussion. <br />RETAIL RECRUITMENT STRATEGY: <br />The City Manager’s Office asked Economic Development Director DeJong to develop a <br />workplan for recruiting and boosting retail activity. Some ideas: <br /> Retail Marketing Brochure <br /> Shop Local Campaign <br /> Retail Leakage Report <br /> Psychographic Analysis <br /> Lead Generation <br /> Cold Calling <br /> Engaging Brokers <br /> Retail Shop Plan competition <br />DeJong asked for feedback and discussion on these ideas. <br />Commissioner Lathrop said the “shop local” campaign takes a long time to take hold. He thinks <br />the first three items on the list might be a group. Chair Dalton said the previous shop local <br />campaign was cut due to budget restraints. Commissioner Menaker said retail developers do <br />3 <br />
