Memorandum
To: Historical Commission
From: Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator
Date: June 24, 2014
Re: Museum Coordinator’s Report
The Brown Bag earlier this month on the topic of bocce ball in Louisville drew 20 people,
included an impromptu demonstration of game play, and was described in an article in
Colorado Hometown Weekly.
Thank you to everyone who helped at the Museum during the Taste of Louisville, including
Paula Elrod, Betty Scarpella, Dave Ferguson, Gladys Levis-Pilz, and Anne Robinson. A
change in the race route led to South Street being closed in the morning so that the finish line
could be right next to the Museum. This was a fun departure from the usual routine and
resulted in the Museum being somewhat more connected to the festivities during the morning.
The City has hired a paid intern to catalog historic photos from the Museum using the
PastPerfect museum cataloging software. Megan Huelman started earlier this month and is
doing the cataloging at my desk at the Library. The internship will go to the end of the summer
and is for about 16 hours a week. A second, similar internship is budgeted for the fall.
I’ve put up an exhibit about the Acme Mine in the Museum’s front windows and have received
positive feedback on it. I also changed an interior exhibit case to showcase photos of
Louisville’s saloons.
Anne Robinson and Diane Marino will give their popular walking tours of historic downtown
th
Louisville again this summer. Diane’s tours of Little Italy are scheduled for July 12 and
rdnd
August 23, and Anne’s tours of the commercial downtown are scheduled for August 2 and
th
September 13. All four are scheduled for Saturdays at 9:30 AM. Suggested donation is $5
per person.
We are planning an evening get-together at Memory Square Park in July to show appreciation
for all of the Museum’s volunteers! This includes showing appreciation for the members of the
Historical Commission, all of whom will be receiving invitations. It’s also an opportunity for the
Commission members to meet and express gratitude to the Museum volunteers. I hope that
Commission members can attend! It’s Thursday, July 31, from 7 to 9 PM at Memory Square
Park, and snacks will be served.
The Museum’s paid memberships are up to 634, the most we’ve ever had.
Museum Visitors Report (these statistics represent visits to the Museum itself, and not
inquiries that come in by email or phone): April visitors: 98; May visitors: 274; YTD: 861.
