Business Retention & Development Committee Meeting Minutes June 2, 2014 Page 2 of 3 Economic Development Director Aaron DeJong gave a recap of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Conference. DeJong attended with Mayor Muckle and City Manager Malcolm Fleming. The following businesses’ booths were visited: Chipotle Qdoba King Soopers InterContinental Hotels Group HomeDepot Lowe’s Walgreens Tebo All businesses reported doingwell. DeJong said it would be good for him to stay an extra day next year rather than hurry back for the City Council meeting. City Manager Fleming discussed strategy for talking with people and said he believes it is a worthwhile trip and expense. Theoverall tone this year at the conference was very upbeat. CULTURAL ARTS AND SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR: Cultural Arts and Special Events Coordinator Suzanne Janssen spoke of her new role at the City. She gave her backgroundand said she has been brought in to carry out the Cultural Arts Master Plan. Additionally Janssen will begin the Public Art Program, be a liaison for the Center for the Arts and Cultural Council, Advocate for Local Art Organizations and explore partnerships with the Business Community. She will begin a general conversation with Council about art in the parks and entrances to the City. Rick Brew introduced the DELO project and Janssen said this is an excellent time to introduce artists to the project. CBRE PRESENTATION Frank Kelley, Senior Vice President of CBRE presented the Northwest Denver Mark Overview, st 1Quarter 2014. In addition to reviewing the presentation in the packet the following comments were made: Mr. Kelley reported the area grew significantly between 1997 and 2002. Google is growing inBoulder and making a significant impact on the area. The average tenant in the NW Quarter is looking for 17000 – 22000 sq feet.
