Louisville Sustainability Advisory Board
Meeting Minutes
August 20, 2014
JVT will begin incorporating /merging items from our three sections into an overall outline.
How to go from 'tactical' to 'strategic' level? Energy usage: what does the community want? Set
goals. (JB) KK noted our city council is not in favor of compulsory items.
Tactical approach: submit battery of questions. Goals can be Xcel's current published goals; get
residents to participate in their programs. .75% annual savings is standard nation -wide goal. (JB)
JB's Energy- Efficiency worksheet has 'non- stretch' & 'stretch' goals.
Will goals be presented as 'personal' or 'town'-level? (LC)
LC noted Xcel did an audit for the Shanahan Ridge subdivision in southwest Boulder, provided per -
household info to residents, to allow performance comparisons.
Will we include justifications for measures? Along with our goals, we should list economic
advantages /justifications. (DH)
We should note that sustainable practices create jobs, and can out - perform other indicators. Present
info in "triple bottom line" terms ( "social, environmental, & financial'; or "people, planet, & profit" — the
"three pillars of sustainability'). (JB)
Refer to examples /recommendations in our Comp Plan. (MAH)
Refer to items listed in our City Council's 2015 Goals & Objectives list. Look for examples of greater
energy efficiencies for different city properties, eg, golf course, greater water savings. (JVT)
It was agreed that team -pairs of LSAB members will contact various city boards and community
groups to solicit their comments and input to develop a sustainable - practices plan. Contact
assignments were recommended based on the emphasis of each team's study area. Teams will
report on their progress at upcoming meetings.
VIII. Items for Next Meeting (Sept 17th):
• Report on our progress — refining a sustainable - practices plan and updates on any scheduled
meetings with our boards and community groups.
• Community- Gardens update
IX: Adjourn: We adjourned at 8:03pm.
Public Works Department
303.335.4608 (phone)
City of Louisville
749 Main Street
303.335.4550 (fax)
Louisville CO 80027
www.louisvilleco.gov
