Historical Commission
Minutes
March 19, 2015
Page 3of5
this one were used here. The LHC voted to accept this donation, so Bridget will
arrange to have the Deed of Gift signed by the donor.
C. Museum Coordinator's Report:
1. Bridget shared an article about the Victor Helburg Memorial effort. The
fund now has $18,000, including two donations of $5,000. The memorial park
may cost $60,000; crowd funding within law enforcement groups is being
pursued.
2. The Chamber of Commerce included many historic photos form the
Museum archives in their latest publication, including pictures of the Louisville
Replica.
3. Bridget gave an orientation and tour of the museum to the new LHC
member Julie VanLaanen and new Council liaison Chris Leh.
4. Twenty -eight (28) people attended the Brown Bag Lunch presentation
about the Harper Lake area, including several Harper Lake neighborhood
residents.
5. The City replaced the cellar door and built steps into the cellar of the Tomeo
House
6. Megan Huelman, the Museum intern, will begin working 20 hours a week in
April. This means the Museum can now be open 4 days a week this spring and
summer.
D. Update on the Museum Master Plan: The needs assessment report from Metcalfe
will be included as part of the Master plan. Another element of the Master Plan will
be the Interpretive Plan that Bridget is working on and that will be presented to the
LHC later this year. A museum's interpretive plan is typically written by museum staff.
The Museum should also have a Business Plan as part of the Master Plan, but there is
no budget for this at this time. Part of the plan needs to look at operational costs (esp.
staffing). Bridget noted that the LHC has been asked to weigh in on operational budget
requests for the Museum for 2016 at its May meeting.
IX. Chairperson's Report:
A. Dan Mellish (DM) announced the resignation of Steve Domenico from the LHC.
Steve has to move out of Louisville.
B. DM thanked Dave Ferguson for presenting the Pioneer Award to Dick DelPizzo at
the January banquet.
C. DM commented on the "great" article about Harper Lake that Bridget wrote for the
Louisville Historian.
D. Bridget's "Homes of our Families" evening program is coming up in May as part of
Preservation Month.
X. Update on Needs Assessment process:
3
