Library Board of Trustees <br />Meeting Minutes —DRAFT <br />January 14, 2016 <br />Page 3 of 5 <br />2) 2016 Schedule of Board Meetings <br />The Board's bi- monthly meeting schedule will remain the second Thursday of odd - <br />numbered months, as follows: <br />• January 14 <br />• March 10 <br />■ May 12 <br />• July 14 <br />■ September 8 <br />• November 10 <br />B. Distribute <br />1) 2016 Open Government & Ethics Pamphlet <br />The 2015 pamphlet was distributed to every Board member as part of the meeting <br />packet. <br />C. Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials <br />1) Ewoks Join the Fight by Michael Siglain <br />The request to have the book removed from the collection was submitted on <br />November 21, 2015. The Request for Reconsideration form cited violent imagery <br />and language as the primary reason. The set of documents prepared by Katie <br />O'Brian and Kristen Bodine of the children's services staff noted that several <br />other libraries in the area also have the book and shelve it in easy reader section. <br />It was also noted that materials are selected based on demand, journal reviews, <br />and the Library's Collection Policy. <br />All Board members reviewed the book, and after a brief discussion Sherri asked <br />for a vote on whether to keep the book in the collection. The Board unanimously <br />agreed to keep the book in the collection in the easy reader section. <br />D. Work Plan 2015 <br />Beth reviewed the results of the 2015 Work Plan, including the following highlights: <br />• Initiation of project plan to reorganize Children's area to facilitate more social <br />interaction <br />• Strong participation in Summer Reading with increased numbers for the Teen <br />program <br />• Development of enhanced non - fiction collection in Children's area <br />• State grant funding to be used in 2016 in part to increase participation in Front <br />Range Downloadable Consortium <br />• STEM focus for virtually all Summer Reading Programs <br />• Teen program attendance double over 2014 <br />• Legal review complete by new stakeholders in expanded Flatirons Library <br />Consortium <br />
