meeting date for St. Patrick's day. Mayor Fauson
stated that several] members of Council would be
out of town and felt it appropriate to change the
date. The motion was carried.
APPOINTMENT TO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS
AND APPEALS Interviews were conducted prior to the Council
meeting for appointments to the Board of
Adjustments and Appeals. Anderson moved that Bob
Ross be reappointed as a full member and G. R.
Hundt and David Smith be appointed as associate
members with terms expiring January 1990. Mohr
seconded. Unanimous.
PROCLAMATION - HISTORICAL
MONTH Mayor Fauson proc:Laimed the month of March as
Historical Month :Ln the City of Louisville.
PRESENTATION - CLEAR AIR
CAMPAIGN Wanush explained that the City of Louisville
participates annu<~lly in the Clean Air Campaign.
The effect of this participation is more in terms
of moral support i:.han significant impact since our
efforts have been aimed at City employees rather
than commuters to Denver or Boulder. In an
attempt to gather data on the extend of the air
quality problem in southeast Boulder County and
the extent to which this area contributes to the
problems of Boulder and Denver. Good data upon
which to base public policy is limited. A study
is being proposed that would provide the data
needed to make decisions. Ken Fucik of the
Boulder County Board of health asked to speak to
Council with a request for $500 to prepare a
proposal for a Countywide air qu-ality monitoring
study. Cities in the County and various private
industries have been approached for funding in the
amount of $17,000 to prepare this proposal for
which $9, 000 has ]been committed.
Gale Biggs, consultant, discussed the technical
aspects of the program. An inventory of Boulder
County air qualit~~ information will be compiled
and gaps in the emissions inventories will be
identified so that further studies can be
performed. The initial effort will be towards
monitoring in Boulder County to determine what the
extent of the problem is, if in fact, a problem is
identified. The :Long term goal of this project is
to use the eastern Boulder County as hugh labora-
tory to study air pollution problems. Monitoring
air quality in Boulder County would provide an
effective tool fo:r predicting air quality for
assessing and planning for the impacts of future
developments, according to Biggs.
2
