had a very successful role in these types of
proceedings.
Mayor Fauson moved that the City of Louisville
participate in proceedings by voluntarily
contributing $652.89 from the 1988 City Budget.
Sackett seconded. The motion passed 5-1 with
Szymanski voting no.
W-470 AUTHORITY BUDGET
REQUEST Hundley stated that a letter from Rich Ferdinandsen,
Chairman of the W-470 Authority was received by the
Mayor in which the Authority is requesting a 1987
appropriation of $6,312 from the City of Louisville.
The letter also informed the Mayor of their 1988
budget request from the City of Louisville for an
amount of $13,100. This letter addresses the
intended use of these funds and breaks down the
requests by jurisdiction.
Jane Monson, 631 W. Aspen Court, stated that not all
Louisville residents are in support of the W-470
project. "I am not convinced that the need for W-
470 has been demonstrated. If there's truly such a
horrible traffic problem in Denver that warrants a
project of this magnitude, perhaps we should be
taking a closer look at an efficient mass transit
system, especially .in view of Denver's current
pollution problems. I've resigned myself to the
fact that W-470 will probably get pushed through.
As a result, I would agree that Louisville participate
in the Authority so that we have some input in
determining the fin<sl route of the freeway. What I
strongly object to :is this current budget request...
in view of our current financial position." Ms.
Monson feels that tYiere are many projects within the
City for which the money could be used more wisely
and feels that the developers that are eager to get
the freeway built should provide the funding.
Szymanski stated th2~t the Finance Committee took up
this issue at its meeting of earlier today.
Initially, when the City decided to become an active
member of the W-470 Authority, consideration of the
benefits to the citizens of the City were of the
utmost concern and therefore, it is the Finance
Committee's recommendation that the funds for this
be appropriated out the 1987 Contingency Fund.
Sackett stated that he appreciated Ms. Monson's
comments regarding t:he needs within the City for
these funds and agrees that there are real needs.
Sackett feels that there is a need to increase the
volume of revenues through retail sales tax rather
than increasing property taxes or use fees.
