CHAMBER REQUEST FOR STREET CLOSURE <br />JULY 4TH CELEBRATION John Wilken, Chamber of Commerce Director, <br />detailed the activities planned at the 4th of July <br />Celebration at Memory Square Park and requested <br />street closure on Spruce Street along the south- <br />side of the park. <br />Mayor Fauson moved that the street closure <br />requested be approved. Mohr seconded. Unanimous. <br />ORDINANCE #894 - UNIFORM FIRE CODE - <br />PUBLIC HEARING Rautenstraus read by title only Ordinance #894, <br />"An Ordinance amending Title 15 of the Louisville <br />Municipal Code concerning adoption of the 1985 <br />Edition of the Uniform Fire Code, setting forth <br />certain standards related to Fire Protection and <br />amending the Safety Code concerning elevators and <br />escalators to the 1984 Edition." Proof of <br />publication and notice of public hearing were <br />established. <br />Mayor Fauson opened the public hearing. <br />Rautenstraus pointed out to Council that there was <br />one amendment to the Ordinance since First <br />Reading in Section 15.12.060 regarding fire lane <br />requirements. The last sentence of this section <br />will read, "No street shall exceed 500 feet in <br />length without providing an alternate fire lane <br />access or 3p0 feet in length for multi-family, <br />industrial or commercial development." <br />Wanush explained that every three years the <br />International Conference of Building Officials <br />(ICBO) updates and revises the fire code. This <br />code is one of the nationally recognized codes <br />generally adopted by most communities to provide <br />for the safety and welfare of its citizens. <br />Currently Louisville uses the 1982 Edition of the <br />Fire Code. Ordinance #894 proposes the adoption <br />of the 1985 Edition with local modifications. <br />This update has been. reviewed and recommended by <br />the Fire Marshal and the Fire Protection District. <br />Fire Marshal Bill Dhieux of the Louisville Fire <br />Protection District spoke to Council requesting <br />the adoption of the 1985 Edition of the Fire Code. <br />Anderson, referring to distance between fire <br />hydrants, asked if fire distance was established <br />from point to point or measured by path of access. <br />Dhieux explained that it is measured by the line <br />of travel. Anderson asked if there is any <br />flexibility to the 150' maximum distance between <br />hydrants. Dhieux stated that in his opinion it <br />2 <br />
