City Council
Meeting Minutes
June 13, 2017
Councilmember Maloney stated he would like more peer review of the report before
making a decision He stated he leans towards the option of continuing with the original
plan for slabs given the costs and the fact the existing building is not having problems.
Mayor Muckle stated he is comfortable with the onginal plan for the slabs. It seems
reasonable as the original building has not had problems.
Mayor Pro Tem Lipton asked if three weeks until the next meeting will give us any
additional information. Mr. Kastelic stated no new information is likely in that time;
regardless, new information will likely give us similar information and in all likelihood the
same decision will be needed
Mayor Pro Tem Lipton asked if parts of the new expansion can tolerate movement more
than others, such as the gym versus the area with a second floor Mr Kastelic stated
the team decided there was no good way to divide up the building as there will always
be risk of some movement and it will be a guess as to what might or might not move.
Councilmember Loo stated she trusts the opinion in the report. She supports going the
conservative route and paying the additional money. She doesn't want to take the
money from the general fund and recommended removing the MAC gym and ask DOLA
for a grant She asked if the project could continue with construction without the gym
and it could be added back if a grant was received. Mr. Kastelic stated it could be.
Councilmember Loo recommended removing the Mac gym and finding the additional
$300,000 in the CIP budget
Mayor Pro Tem Lipton noted if there is movement in this slab construction you only
need to repair the sections that have moved, not the entire building. He does not
support removing the MAC gym.
Mayor Muckle moved to direct staff to proceed with the design of the building for the
slab construction without the additional work; Councilmember Maloney seconded.
Councilmember Stolzmann asked if we do use this option staff detail for the Council
how we can address failures if there are any over the next 20 years
Vote: Motion carved by unanimous roll call vote
ORDINANCE NO. 1739, SERIES 2017 — AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER
3.20 OF THE LOUISVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE PERTAINING TO SALES AND USE
TAX DEFINITIONS, EXEMPTIONS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES AND
AMENDING CHAPTER 3.22 PERTAINING TO THE LODGING TAX — 2ND READING —
PUBLIC HEARING (advertised Daily Camera 06/07/17)
Mayor opened the public hearing.
