City Council
Meeting Minutes
April 15, 2008
The annual Arbor Day Event is scheduled for April 19, 2008, at the Arboretum.
(REGULAR BUSINESS
PRESENTATION -LYNX BUS SERVICE
The presentation was made k>y Boulder County Transportation Director George
Gerstle. Project Overview: A Federal grant was received in 2005 for new transit
service along 95tH/96tH Street. The grant is $1.27 million dollars with 50/50 local
match from Boulder County Transportation Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The
project scope was amended in response to stakeholder input in January of 2008
to provide a combination of services to Erie and Louisville. The final funding
agreement and bus stop improvements are underway. RTD will operate both
services.
Proposed Route: The original route was from Longmont to US 36. The Citizen
Stakeholders process identified needs in Erie and Louisville. The current
proposal includes a new Lynn: Route from Downtown to Broomfield Park-n-Ride;
Louisville Library; Community Park; neighborhoods along Bella Vista and West
Cherry; Monarch School, Avista Hospital and Park-n-Rides at Flatirons and
Wadsworth Blvd. Service will begin Monday, June 30. The hours of operation will
be: Weekdays - 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and Saturdays - 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM.
Marketing/Outreach: The Citiizen Stakeholder process focused on route
concepts and identity; design concepts, bus wraps and stops. The project
teamed with staff from cities and towns providing technical input. Route logo and
bus design was completed last summer and vehicles were ordered in
September. RTD vehicles willl be used over the summer.
Partnership: RTD will operate both routes. The 36 Commuting Solutions
assisted with outreach and communications. Boulder County provided funding
and coordination. Louisville, Lafayette, Erie and Boulder provided technical
assistance and community outreach. Mr. Gerstle explained this is a two-year
grant and stressed the importance of the route's success and the collaboration
with RTD. If the route is successful it will be picked up by RTD as a regular
route.
COUNCIL COMMENT
Councilor Muckle asked if they plan to connect to 88tH Street, which would
provide a Superior connection to Monarch High School. Mr. Gerstle explained
originally the route was throuc~h Interlocken however it required more time to
complete the route, and more vehicles, which would have exceeded the budget.
