She would be interested in hear-
ing what sorts of solutions are being con-
sidered by Council after they have had this
opportunity to talk with other interested
government bodies about the safe crossing
of South Boulder Road.
Administrator Wurl stated that later on-on
t:he agenda Item 11 F. dealt with this
problem and would be discussed by Council
at that time.
FLAG DAY - MAYOR'S PROCLA- C~ouncilmembers had a copy of the procla-
MATION mation and Mayor Meier read it in its en-
tirety then presented it to Mrs. Ellie
Cabbage.
Mayor Meier also stated that when this was
brought to his attention and he was re-
quested to designate someome to coordinate
Flag Day for the City of Louisville, his
first thought was Ellie Cabbage who has
great respect for our flag and our country.
Ellie Cabbage Mrs. Cabbage stated the idea of the "Pause
for the Pledge of Allegiance" originated
in 1980 in Baltimore, Maryland. M.D.T.
t.o say simultaneously the thirty-one words
of the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Z'he effect of this simple ceremony is a
stimulating experience at home and a sign
of unity abroad. In 1983 results of the
"Pause for the Pledge" were summarized.
'T'hey indicated that more flags were being
flown regularly on homes and buildings
and were generally displayed more widely
than the 3 previous years. Patriotism
i.s once again being expressed openly and
~>roudly. Flag Day is recognized as the
connecting link between two other patriotic
