12/4/84 Page -2-
that= the City is in presently, all of us
muse: learn to live with the budget the way
it is. However, from a citizen's point of
view let's make sure that we don't make a care-
less mistake as we try to streamline the bt~get
Councilman Leary Stated that he felt that Mr. Thompson's let~~~:~r
was well written and made some excellent points „
He j:urther stated that Council had taken a
recommended budget from the staff which
recommended that a person be added rather
than give~.the salary increases. Also, a
salary survey will be done, as there were
concerns that some people are getting paid
more: than they should be and some are get4
less . The- results of that survey should ;~.
available by the first quarter of 1985 and
a decision can be made as to whether there
can be salary increases or not. Unless the
City Administrator comes back with another
recommentation before the end of the quarter;
-- - which would have no fiscal impact on the City,
that: would be the time to review it with re-
spect to merit increase.
Mr. Thompson inquired if there was anything
they could do to help with the surveys. He
suggested that perhaps some money could be
saved by borrowing other municipalities' su_
veys, i.e. the City and County of Denver.
Councilman Luce Catm~ented the problem is not whether or not
we c:an do a survey economically because we
have' that kind of data. The classification
- - ------
study not only looks at what other people
in s>imilar positions are being paid; but ma:~-e
importantly looks at the issue is an Electrican
1 iri City A doing the same kinds of things as
a Classified Electrician A in City B. He
felt: that decision had been set in place and
to some extent Mr. Thompson's comments were
after the fact.
Mayor Meier Thar.~ked Mr. Thompson for his letter and con~-
side:ration and stated that he agreed with the
philosophy that his letter expressed. He
staged that he would welcome any suggestions
Mr. Thompson would have dealing with the sur-
vey .
