Kathy reminded us that all agenda items must be to her and
Julie by noon of the Wednesday preceding our meeting and to
Julie K the Tuesday before.
Kathy then brought up the fact that it costs $53K to
maintain the Arts Center over the course of a year and
raised the possibility of the City charging a nominal fee to
offset those expenses to the major usage groups: Coal Creek
theater, Center Stage, and the LAA, perhaps
$1,000/year/group. It gets rented to residents for $70/hour
to residents for groups >21; $90/hour for non-resident
groups. Don objected to Arts groups being charged since
they don't make enough to pay for space. Julie K suggested
a cap on free hours. Joe suggested a two-tier fee
structure: charge more for Friday and Saturday nights.
Maryan asked about the value of $3K to the City budget vs.
the ill-will and potential departure of arts groups. Lynn
recommended a joint fund-raising effort. Jim asked for City
to get input from all user groups and pointed out that we'll
need an endowment to pay for expenses to keep it going. Joe
talked about the balancing act needed for all downtown arts
centers across the state.
There was a brief discussion about DBA's desire to put art
downtown; Action item: Maryan is to meet with Deb Kruger.
XII - Events Schedule:
Action item: Maryan to add Silent Movies 11/14 and young
Artists 11/21-12/7 to Events Calendar
Email list is @675 people
Snail mail: @900
Everyone is responsible for publicizing their own events
Action item: Maryan to print more surveys
XII - New Arts Center: Don and Lynn will be touring other
Arts Centers, starting in Arvada. We need to keep an open
mind on situating an Arts Center in Centennial Valley as
well as downtown.
Action Item: Don will work on handout and powerpoint for
City Council Work Session
8:34 JIM LEFT THE ROOM WITHOUT EXPLANAION
8:35 JIM REAPPEARED
XIII - Fundraising: Lynn passed around samples of the
poster, magnets, postcards, notecards with envelopes and
bookmarks. She is working with Morrell Printing and has
pricing from Vista as well.
Action Item: Lynn will correct to Louisville Center for the
Arts
