Historical Background <br />This house has was built shortly after the turn of the twentieth century, and has served as a single-family dwelling <br />since that time. The building's original owner is unknown, there is a good chance, though, that a member of the <br />family was employed at area coal mines. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Louisville's economy was based <br />principally on the area's coal industry. As a result, the livelihoods of most of the community's jnhabitants were <br />directly, or indirectly, dependent on the coal mines. {� <br />Throughout much of the twentieth century, this was the residence of Joe and Ma o.'Joe Jasko was a miner <br />who had come to Louisville in the 1890s. He and Mary had previously lived i e further north on LaFarge, <br />between Spruce and Walnut, before moving into this house sometime in D s. Joe passed away in the 1940s, <br />but Mary continued to live here in retirement into the early 1 OSei ir son, Joseph Jr., was also a long-time <br />Louisville miner. e <br />From 1966, to the present, this has been the res 'Noddy and Edward Plumley. Parents of thirteen children, <br />the Plumleys previously lived in Grand Islaffabraska, and in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where Edward worked for <br />the Union Pacific Railroad.
