Section 1: General Provisions <br />1.3 APPLICABILITY. These regulations shall apply to the display, <br />construction, erection, alteration, use, maintenance, and location of all signs <br />within the City. <br />1. Signs may be erected, altered and maintained only for, and be a <br />permitted use in, the district in which the signs are located; shall be <br />located on the same lot as the permitted uses to which they relate, <br />except for sandwich board signs as permitted in Section 5 and shall <br />be clearly incidental, customary and commonly associated with the <br />operation of the permitted use. <br />2. If any provision of these regulations conflicts with any other adopted <br />City ordinance or regulation that regulates signs, the more restrictive <br />standards shall apply, provided, however, to the extent an approved, <br />unexpired and currently effective Planned Unit Development <br />under Louisville Municipal Code Chapter 17.28 includes specific <br />sign allowances and/or restrictions that directly conflict with these <br />regulations, such allowances and restrictions shall apply to the extent of <br />the conflict. <br />3. Design guidelines identified within this manual replace the <br />design standards for signs contained in the Design Handbook for <br />Downtown Louisville, the Downtown Louisville Sign Manual, the <br />City of Louisville Commercial Development Design Standards <br />and Guidelines, the City of Louisville Industrial Development <br />Design Standards and Guidelines, the City of Louisville Mixed Use <br />Development Design Standards and Guidelines, and Chapter 17.24 of <br />the Louisville Municipal Code (LMC). <br />4. The City recognizes other regulations pertaining to signage, specifically <br />the State of Colorado, Department of Highways, "Rules and <br />Regulations Pertaining to Outdoor Advertising," effective January 1, <br />1984, as may be amended. Where any provision of these regulations <br />address the same subject matter as other regulations, the more <br />restrictive regulation shall apply. <br />5. Nothing in these regulations shall be construed as a defense to a <br />violation of applicable state or federal law. <br />6. All signs displayed, constructed, erected or altered after the effective <br />date of these regulations, as adopted on ', 2019, shall be in <br />conformance with the provisions of these regulations. All signs that are <br />existing at the time of the adoption of these regulations shall not be <br />altered or enlarged without being brought into conformance with these <br />regulations. <br />City of Louisville Sign Code <br />15 <br />
