Business Retention and Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />October 7, 2019 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />III. APPROVAL OF SEPTEMBER 3, 2019 MINUTES — On proper motion, the Committee <br />approved the BRaD Committee minutes of September 3, 2019. <br />IV. APPROVAL OF AGENDA — Approved. <br />V. PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA: None <br />VI. BUSINESS MATTERS OF THE COMMITTEE: <br />1. Retention Visits: Interim Economic Development Director Zemler led a <br />discussion regarding conduct / format / timing / goals for re -start of business <br />retention visits by the City Economic Development (future Economic Vitality) <br />Director. Topics discussed included: <br />- Frequency of visits <br />- Selection of businesses for visit <br />- Attendance at visits <br />- Questions to ask of businesses <br />- Goals for visits <br />- City subareas (Old Town, South Boulder, CTC, McCaslin) for visit timing <br />and possible area specific questions <br />Committee members and Staff expressed a range of ideas / suggestions and goals <br />regarding the visits, including: <br />- Visits should demonstrate genuine interest by City and existing business <br />owner committee members in the success and continued vitality of <br />Louisville businesses <br />Discover the `temperature' of business climate — good, ok, otherwise — <br />and possible areas for improvement in City relationship / services <br />City Development Director to initiate / identify businesses for retention <br />visit roll -out in October / November <br />Schedule one or two every other month <br />- Include Development Director and one to three Committee members — <br />on an agreed date and time schedule (preference appeared to be mid - <br />mornings) <br />- Encourage more informal 'one on one' visits by Committee members <br />with businesses in their respective business arena and / or areas of town <br />- Include a Business Retention Report on each Committee meeting <br />agenda for members / Director to report on prior month visits <br />- Periodically summarize and present findings from Retention Visits to <br />Council <br />2. BRaD Next Steps Discussion (continued): The Committee continued its discuss <br />of next steps. Next steps will be informed by information / feedback received during <br />the restarted Business Retention visits. <br />
