Planning Commission
Meeting Minutes
July 10, 2008
problems/issues would be addressed by staff as soon as they are identified. If needed,
the SRU can be recalled by the Planning Commission.
Lipton requested a clarification of the 6' fence location.
Staff reviewed the LMC regarding the 6' fence height and stated the applicant is
requesting a waiver for only a specific section of the fence to 4' in height.
Applicant Presentation:
Michele Beach and Elizabeth Baker, Executive Directors, of the Patchwork School
discussed the philosophy of the schools learning environment, the pilot year for the
school at a Broomfield location and their desire to find a more permanent location in the
Louisville area. They also discussed the fence waiver request, the use of alternative
transportation by staff, and possible revisions to the parking agreement.
Questions of Applicant:
Loo discussed the hours of operation and confirmed that the applicant had been in
contact with the Louisville Middle School Principals Office.
Russell requested a clarification of the number of enrollees, the window of time for the 9
AM arrival and do the parents walk their child into the facility.
Beach stated the number of enrollees is regulated by the State of Colorado and they
can be licensed for 30 but it is there intent to keep the number to 28 at any one time.
She also stated the majority of enrollees do not arrive at the same time so the street
parking has not been a problem in the past. Also, the parents are legally required to
walk their children to the facility to check them in and out.
Sheets asked if they had purchased the property or if they were leasing.
Beach stated they had a two-year lease with options.
Hartman inquired about the age breakdown.
Beach stated there goal is approximately fourteen in each of two age groups: 2'/2 to 3
1/2 and 4 to 8 with probably no one over the age of 6.
Members of the Public:
Courtney Wilcox, 9729 Teller Lane, Westminster, stated her support for the schools
request and she has a child that will be attending.
Jennifer Rudkin, 500 W. Sycamore Circle, Louisville, stated she currently commutes to
north Boulder for such a school but with the approval of the Patchwork School she will
have her child attending in Louisville.
Staff and Applicant Summary and Recommendation:
No additional comments from either Staff or Applicant.
Public Hearing Closed Commission Comments:
Pritchard, Lipton, Russell and Hartman support the SRU request as presented by Staff
and Applicant.
Sheets stated her support of the request and expressed concern with parking and traffic
issues associated with the Louisville Middle School.
