Revitalization Commission
Minutes
November 10, 2020
Business Matters of Commission:
• Discussion — Signage and Wayfinding
Chair Fisher commented he likes the wayfinding and historical signs but that the
sign monuments looked too big. Economic Vitality Director Megan Pierce called
attention in the packet to page 16 that shows where signs would be placed.
Director Pierce noted the information is a starting point for discussion around
wayfinding and a refresh as to what was in the original wayfinding plan. Council
member Lipton said what is presented is city-wide plan. A lot of time was spent
on this by Council in the past. Monument signs became very expensive with
solar additions suggested, etc. and Council wanted to go back to something
simpler. The LRC has the capability to do things in the district and decide how
important it is; what types of signs do you want to invest in?
LRC has $130k for 12 signs in the proposed 2021 budget. Director Pierce
suggests she get updated sign estimates and get a realistic look at what future
signage cost would be.
Parking signs for the URA are in Phase 2. Commissioner Adler thinks parking
signs are most important would like to consider this for Phase 1.
Commissioner Bradfield thinks signage is very important and could offer
durable, lasting value. He thinks it could help district and increase tax revenues.
Commissioner Gambale agrees. He thinks it is the single most important thing
LRC can do in the near future. We need to tell the story of the City.
Commissioner Gorsevski agrees. He said the Town of Superior just installed
signage. He likes the design and it matches underpass. Items such as street
lights and paving can set downtown apart and defines URA. He believes
signage is a good start.
Commissioner Adler asked if the idea to have signage in DeLo or downtown?
Director Pierce said we need to have a conversation with consultant. Chair
Fisher, do we need council approval? Yes and Director Pierce thinks LRC
should have an early conversation with Council as it impacts the community to
perhaps make it an integrated plan.
Commissioner Tofte agrees with Commissioner Gambale about telling the story
of Louisville and using interpretive signs. Planning and Building Safety Director
Agenda Packet P. 3
