Natural Resources: <br />1. The Davidson Mesa Self -Guided Brochures have been available on the <br />property since April 2020 and 300 brochures have been distributed so far to <br />visitors. A copy of the brochure is available in the OSAB packet. <br />2. The Open Space Division has three raptor nest cameras on select Open <br />Space properties including two great horned owl locations and one American <br />kestrel box. Staff is monitoring the cameras daily for activity and has <br />observed limited activity at one owl nest location so far this season. Staff will <br />share links to the camera(s) if incubation is confirmed. <br />3. Staff is working on a new database for tracking volunteer and weed control <br />hours beginning in 2021. This database will replace several spreadsheets <br />previously used and allow for more rapid and accurate generation of natural <br />resource management reports. <br />Education/Volunteer: <br />1. Upcoming events: <br />a. Sunday, February 14th from 11:00 to 12:00 pm, Winter Landscapes: A <br />Valentine's Day Plein Air Event. Warembourg Open Space fishing pond. <br />Ages 12 and up. <br />b. Saturday, February 20th from 10:00 to 12:00 pm, Chat with a Ranger - <br />Ranger booth, at Harper Lake Open Space trailhead off of Washington <br />Ave. All ages. This event is weather permitting and will take place on the <br />following Saturday, same time and place, if rescheduled due to weather. <br />c. Sunday, February 28th from 10:00 to 11:00 am, DOLA Poop Pick-up <br />(volunteer event). Davidson Mesa Dog Off -leash area. All ages. <br />2. Past events: <br />a. Thursday, January 14th from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Wild Birds in the Wintertime. <br />Webinar provided by Colorado Avian Research and Rehabilitation <br />Institute. 23 participants. <br />d. Saturday, January 30th from 10:00 to 12:00 pm, Chat with a Ranger - <br />Ranger booth, at Harper Lake Open Space trailhead off of Washington <br />Ave. 68 participants. <br />3. Staff has begun 2021 recruitment for Open Space volunteer programs. Due <br />to limited nest availability and anticipated returning volunteers, staff is not <br />currently recruiting for the Raptor Monitoring Program. Staff is also removing <br />burrowing owl surveys and photo points from programming this year to <br />balance workload and focus on increasing opportunities and participation in <br />trail maintenance and mechanical weed control volunteer opportunities. <br />Resource Protection: <br />1. Tree Fort monitoring and removal continues at North Open Space and Dutch <br />Creek Open Space <br />a. Work was delayed due to snowy/muddy conditions in the area <br />b. Removal will be completed by the end of February <br />c. Monitoring will continue for safety and natural resource damage <br />2. Signs have been replaced indicating the City's stance on Tree Forts <br />
