Library Board of Trustees <br />Agenda <br />Thursday, January 14, 2021 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />from the public about Library services and identifying recommendations for improvement. <br />The Board also emphasized the idea of supporting the Library staff as well, and acknowledged <br />that this is a goal but sometimes difficult to operationalize. The Board discussed how to <br />include former Library staff in any support as well. <br />F. 2021 Library Work Plan <br />Director Nemechek discussed the Library Work Plan for 2021, which includes a limited <br />reopening to in -person pickup with limited browsing, The Library wants to avoid a return to <br />complete curbside pickup because of the staffing it requires, but will experiment with limiting <br />the number of people indoors. Reopening will require more staff. As a part of this, the <br />Library wants to actively invite users into the Library including finding ways to target new <br />residents to Louisville and Superior. The year's overall emphasis will be on "Welcome All," <br />including both issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion and also active outreach to the <br />community. The Library will execute a partnership with Boulder Valley School District to <br />connect BVSD students to Library resources. The Library also plans to implement mobile <br />check-out, where a phone -based app will be used to check out materials directly. <br />IX. Ongoing Business <br />A. Superior Board of Trustees update (Laura Skladzinski) <br />Superior plans to open a new community center in 2021, which will include Library services. <br />B. Library Foundation liaison report (Renee Gurganus) <br />The Library Foundation will provide a significant donation for the 2021 budget including a <br />$16,000 increase over the 2020 donation in recognition of the challenging economic <br />environment facing the city. The Foundation is planning a postcard program to highlight the <br />Foundation to donors as well as the regular utility billing fundraising program. <br />X. Director's Report (S. Nemechek) <br />Director Nemechek reviewed the Director's report included in the meeting informational <br />materials. Key items include a review of the 2020 directly and in comparison with other local <br />libraries. In these metrics Louisville library is above median in staffing and budget per capita <br />but not the highest, but significantly higher than other local libraries in circulation per capita <br />and among the highest in visits. Participation in the summer reading program dropped <br />precipitously in 2020. Digital circulation increased significantly. Library card registration <br />remains relatively high. Curbside pickup has been extremely positive, but is very staff - <br />intensive and many people in the community have indicated a preference for in -person <br />browsing. <br />For 2021 the Library is focusing on a smaller number of key performance indicators than 2020, <br />including: <br />• Total circulation (number of checkouts and renewals) <br />• Circulation per registered borrower <br />• Library visits per capita <br />• Percentage change in number of sessions on public computers <br />• Average number of attendees per program <br />Community survey question: rating of overall performance of Louisville Public Library <br />
