· Administrators
· Stakeholders

We recommend that the training be made available for all the above-mentioned groups. Arranging two
offerings of the new energy code training will help ensure that more people who want to be trained have
that opportunity.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - GREEN BUILDING TRAINING

The development of a green building program provides a necessary educational component for the user
group of the program. This includes the building and design professional, who will need to be aware of
current green building techniques along side increased energy efficient measures through the 2009
International Energy Conservation Code. The training could also include homeowners, building owners,
building officials, industry vendors, etc.

Energy efficiency and green building are not exclusive of each other, however the topic of green building
goes beyond energy efficiency to deal with resource conservation and indoor air quality. It is our
recommendation that David Johnston, from What's Working, be contracted to provide at least two Green
Advantage trainings over the course of the next 12 months. Green Advantage is a professional training
certification where participants by the end of the training are able to demonstrate knowledge in all aspects
of residential green building.

The cost of the Green Advantage training is between $400 and $600 per participant for a full two-day
training. We encourage the City to use matching funds to help defray the cost of the training to
participants in order to cut the enrollment fee, at least, by half.

GREEN BUILDING WORKSHOP SERIES

Transition Louisville is in the process of designing a green building workshop series in support of
Louisville's green building program. The workshops should present practical information and guidance for
home energy efficiency and green building and should specifically address our existing housing stock and
be made available to homeowners, building owners, design professionals and building professionals,
realtors, City officials, and City staff. The motivation by the group is to help generate awareness of green
building and home energy efficiency for residents of Louisville. It is our hope that the workshop series
would address the aspects of green building, including energy efficiency, resource conservation (including
water conservation) and indoor air quality. It is undecided at this time whether the workshops would be in
series or on individual and separate topics. A workshop series progression may be as follows:

1. Home Energy Improvement Overview
2. Home Energy Assessment and Audits, and Improvement Planning
3. Home Envelope and Insulation Improvement
4. Home Systems Improvement and Upgrading
5. Home Renewable Energy Improvements (PV, solar hot water, geothermal, etc.)

Workshop format and flow may be as follows:

1. Transition Louisville Overview (short 3-5 slide PowerPoint presentation)

14
