(born 1859), her son John August "Gus" (1880-1956), and his daughter Louise (1903-2003). In
1940, another Cook son, James (1894-1960) rented the house for $10 a month with his wife,
Etta Park Cook (1899-1975), their five children, and his brother Gus. Etta Park Cook is known to
have been part of a Louisville sewing group funded by the WPA at that time. Gus Cook and
James Cook were both coal miners.
In 1942-1943, Leonard Glenn (1899-1968) and Marvel Glenn (1906-1965) lived at 829 Lincoln.
As indicated on his 1942 World War II draft registration form, Leonard Glenn worked at the
Allphin Ford Garage in Louisville. His address is stated as 829 Lincoln. Glenn is also listed in the
1943 directory. The Glenns had four children: Barbara, Donna, Charles, and Leonard. Their ages
ranged between about two and fifteen years old while they were living at 829 Lincoln.
Tapp Ownership, 1944-1951
Boulder County recorded documents show that John Balent sold 829 Lincoln to John "Jake"
Tapp in 1944 for $900. Jake Tapp was a previous resident of Louisville who had by then moved
to California. It is believed that he never lived in the house and that he may have purchased it
as an investment property.
Beginning in 1944, the family of Pete and Ella Ross rented the house. They became owners of it
in 1951. They may have had an earlier contract with Tapp to purchase the house, but if they
did, it appears not to have been recorded with Boulder County.
Ross/Marino Family Ownership, 1951-Present
The Ross family began to rent 829 Lincoln in 1944, and in 1951, Peter "Pete" Ross (1904-1982)
and Ellanora "Ella" Beranek Ross (1907-1979) became the legal owners of the property.
Pete Ross was born in Louisville to parents who were from Italy, and he grew up in Louisville's
Little Italy neighborhood. Ella Ross was born in Michigan to Czech parents who moved to
Louisville within the following few years. Pete and Ella married and had their children, Betty
(1926-2017) and Donald (1929-2012). The family rented a house in Little Italy near Pete's
relatives for several years prior to moving to another location in Louisville and then to 829
Lincoln. According to his obituary, Pete Ross worked as a coal miner for 35 years and also was
employed by the City of Louisville. He retired in 1969 from Boulder Valley School District.
Betty married Carl Ernest Marino (1922-2001) in 1948 and moved to Lafayette. Don Ross
continued to live in the house at 829 Lincoln with his parents. He then married and moved
elsewhere in Louisville.
The following photo and ground layout are from the County Assessor card and show the house
in 1948, when the Ross family was living in it but did not yet own it. (The blue pencil
handwriting on the ground layout image is from 1948 and the red pencil handwriting is from
when the Assessor returned in 1950.)
6
