Open Space Advisory Board <br />Staff Updates Continued <br />September 8, 2021 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />Trails & Maintenance: <br />1. Mowing will be picking back up as trail repair from water runoff is wrapping up; staff is planning <br />a final mow of all properties before winter begins. <br />2. Two additional memorial benches have been adopted, leaving eight available benches in Open <br />Space: six stone benches along the Coal Creek trail and two metal benches. Fall memorial bench <br />review may lead to additional benches recommendations for OSAB consideration. <br />Natural Resources: <br />1. The Open Space weed control contractor completed herbicide applications to control cheatgrass <br />on Dutch Creek, Davidson Mesa, Harper Lake, Bullhead Gulch, and Aquarius. <br />2. An aspiring Eagle Scout will be installing two bat houses on Coyote Run Open Space in early <br />September. The project has been designed in consultation with staff and a local bat enthusiast. <br />3. A botanical contractor will be sampling locations along the Coal Creek riparian corridor to <br />characterize vegetation composition. These data will act as a baseline to document the continued <br />response of creekside vegetation to 2013 flood impacts. <br />Education/Volunteer: <br />1. Volunteer Events Past: <br />a. Saturday, August 7th from 8:00 to 10:00 am, Pulling for Louisville. Harper Lake Open Space. 16 <br />participants. <br />b. Wednesday, August 18th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, Pulling for Louisville. Walnut Open Space. 13 <br />participants. <br />c. Sunday, August 22nd from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Dog Waste Pick-up at DOLA. Davidson Mesa Dog <br />Off -leash Area. 27 participants. <br />2. Volunteer Events Upcoming: <br />a. Tuesday, September 7th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, Pulling for Louisville. Davidson Mesa Open <br />Space, GHX entrance. <br />3. Education Events Past: <br />a.
