styO
Louisville
COLORADO • SING ] 878
o LSAB: Review town directives in relation to landscaping and mowing for
guidance.
o PPLAB: Median project — if this project moves forward, will want to move
forward with elimination of turf in medians (reduce mowing, irrigation, etc.)
o PPLAB: Discussion around obtaining landscape improvement funds to move
towards sustainable landscaping. Move away from old models around "mow,
spray and blow" maintenance. Demonstration/Pilot projects may be helpful.
Discussion around Arboretum and current process/improvements.
• LSAB Updates
o Discussion around city climate action tax; City Council asked the Sustainability
Committee to gather more information. Residential and Business surveys
created to gauge interest. Surveys went out recently; results in progress.
o Katie Baum, city council liaison to Sustainability Committee has been working on
City's greenhouse gas footprint reduction, spending from potential tax.
• Sloyd Experience: Letter to PPLAB to discuss park open space service fees
7. Park Scorecard Progress
• Ellen: Overall parks assigned were in very good shape.
o Annette -Brand Park may be over -watered.
o Pocket Parks: discussion around large amount of turf in pocket parks, large
number of thistle. Discuss maintenance of turf that is never used.
o Cleo Mudrock also has a lot of thistle in turf; however, turf is needed at this park
for specific athletic use.
o Signs are needed for every park. Many signs (ex. Cleo Mudrock near the school)
are in disrepair. Sign improvements are currently in the budget but plans to
improve/install are unclear.
o Signs especially needed for 'pocket parks' as some are not universally known as
city parks.
o Heritage Park: Bathroom gets a lot of use. City contracted with a janitorial
service to maintain; however janitorial service is having staffing issues.
o Par course: equipment at Hammer Run Park needs maintenance.
o Weed control: generally good, aside from thistle in the turf
• PPLAB to continue with scorecards: 1-5 scoring with comments. Members received
scorecards to complete by September 30 for discussion at Oct/Nov meetings.
8. Cottonwood Park Playground Equipment
• Parks, Recreation and Open Space department
playground equipment from the following providers:
o Churchich/Miracle Recreation
o Designscapes Colorado
o Rocky Mountain Recreation
o Star Playgrounds
received proposals from qualified
3
