<br />City Council/LRC <br />Special Meeting Minutes <br />March 10, 2009 <br />Page 5 of 7 <br /> <br />the downtown area, and the north/south expansion. Deputy City Manager Balser <br />confirmed Staff and RTD looked at various scenarios. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hernandez reported on the Littleton station and parking and <br />stated commuters will park where it will be most advantageous to arrive and <br />depart the station. He explained the parking and traffic circulation pattern in <br />Option 2a makes more sense. <br /> <br />Councilor Dalton agreed with Commissioner Hernandez, commuters will park <br />where they can get in and out quickly. He addressed the issue of structured <br />parking and noted it is very expensive and will not be built by RTD and there will <br />probably not be enough TIF money for the City to build parking structures. <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk voiced his belief 2a allows the project to go forward and to continue <br />working with RTD. He addressed sales tax dollars and noted commuters parking <br />on the west side will be more likely to frequent the downtown businesses. <br /> <br />Councilor Sackett expressed his thanks to the City Staff. He addressed a <br />Denver Post article, which stated the project will not go forward before 2017. <br />He felt there is sufficient time to develop the best plan possible. He favored <br />Option 3, which provides sufficient parking on the east side of the tracks, without <br />utilizing the Sports Complex parking lots. <br /> <br />Councilor Clabots favored Option 2b, but voiced his concern the parking may not <br />be sufficient. He felt Option 3 would be cost prohibitive. <br /> <br />Councilor Muckle preferred Option 1 and voiced his belief commuters would <br />frequent the downtown businesses. <br /> <br />Councilor Dalton and Mayor Sisk preferred Option 2b. Mayor Sisk stated the <br />footprint would be compatible with the desires of the community. <br /> <br />Commissioner Tofte favored Option 2b and asked how many parking spaces <br />would be gained if the retail was eliminated. <br /> <br />John Leary, 1116 LaFarge Avenue, Louisville, CO asked when the location of the <br />station was decided. Mayor Sisk stated the location was decided when Mayor <br />Davidson was in office. Mr. Quinn stated that the location of the rail platforms <br />was set, and further confirmed from an engineering standpoint, the staggered <br />platform design minimizes impacts to adjoining property interests. He noted they <br />do not want to displace the residents in Miner's Field area. Deputy City Manager <br />Balser explained the Framework Plan addressed the impacts to existing <br />neighborhoods in locating the rail station. <br />
