a. John noted that he had completed significant research for Bee City USA information this <br />evening <br />b. Ellen announced the availability of new and improved park maps, copies provided for <br />new PPAB members <br />c. Copies of current PPLAB roster distributed <br />d. We have received an email from Susan McEachern (OSAB board member), regarding <br />possible joint meeting. Possible agenda would include Wayfinding signage, trails and <br />open space/parks issues <br />6. Public comments <br />a. Board asked if our visitors from Monarch High had any questions on what they had <br />observed. Students were visiting the meeting to observe Local Government activities <br />for a class at Monarch High. PPLAB Chair noted that all City Government meetings are <br />open to the public, and community comments are welcomed and encouraged as part of <br />the Sunshine requirements for governments in Colorado. <br />b. Visiting Sustainability Advisory Board Committee member Josh Cooperman submitted <br />comments from the Sustainability Advisory Board regarding issues that can promote <br />Sustainability in Louisville, including, native plantings for medians and subdivision <br />entrances, trees in medians (where possible) and at Sports Complex parking lot, <br />replacing Turf Grass with native grasses and bike parking spaces. Also, Josh noted that <br />Louisville has an upcoming Hazardous Waste event, registration required, and an <br />opportunity from Denver Regional Air Quality Board to exchange gas -powered lawn care <br />equipment for electrical. Josh cited No -Mow May article in New York Times and a <br />strong environmental trend. Council Member Fahey noted that Enclave or Golf Course <br />might be a great venue for robotic lawnmower under consideration. <br />7. Bee City USA Designation Discussion <br />a. PPLAB member John Webb outlined benefits and costs of Bee City USA designation, a <br />program administered by the Xerces Society for Conservation of Invertebrates <br />(practically everything that crawls or flies). John referenced pdf documents previously <br />emailed to PPLAB members, highlighting educational, environmental, and aesthetic <br />benefits of Bee City USA designation and obligations of Louisville if accepted to the <br />program. Staff and PPLAB members noted that Bee City USA program is in alignment <br />with Louisville City goals of sustainability, reduced pesticide use, and proposed motion <br />of Pollinator Gardens at Community Park, and agreed to pass along favorable <br />recommendation to Council. <br />8. Discussion on ways PPLAB can assist with Marshall Fire Recovery <br />a. Fortunately, damage from the Marshall fire was minor to the Parks overall, with only 21 <br />trees exceeding 6' probably lost, a few large cottonwood trees, landscaping and <br />irrigation, some fencing, and a play structure at Enclave Park, but we need to make sure <br />that Park repairs are done expeditiously and that the Parks can serve as peaceful <br />refuges for City residents. <br />
