cityOf ECONOMIC VITALITY COMMITTEE <br />Louisville <br />COLORADO • SINCE 1878 <br />SUBJECT: STAFF UPDATES <br />DATE: MARCH 10, 2023 <br />PRESENTED BY: AUSTIN BROWN, ECONOMIC VITALITY SPECIALIST <br />SUMMARY: <br />In the following, staff provides updates on recent activity related to core economic <br />vitality functions. <br />Staffing Update <br />The City of Louisville held a "Meet and Greet" with the two finalist for the vacant <br />Economic Vitality Manager position on March 1. The evening included a brief <br />introduction from the two finalists and then approximately 45 minutes of networking. <br />Light snacks and beverages were served. About fifteen members of the business <br />community attended the event and provided feedback on the two candidates. <br />Business Forum <br />The spring 2023 Business Forum is anticipated for April 2023. Staff is in the early <br />stages of planning this event for late April. The City's Events staff will once again help <br />facilitate the event. As of the writing of this memo, staff is planning a breakfast event <br />with a local economist as the featured speaker. The availability of the speaker may <br />dictate the date and location of the event. <br />Business Openings & Closings <br />The Empire Lounge (816 Main Street) closed for good on Sunday February 26. The <br />Empire had been operating as a restaurant in downtown Louisville for the past 15 years. <br />The owner has indicated that the 5,000 square foot building is available for lease or <br />possibly purchase. <br />Gastronauts (1150 Pine Street) permanently closed in February. Gastronauts had been <br />serving food within Gravity Brewing for seven years. Gravity Brewing remains open for <br />business and is searching for a new tenant to take over the Gastronauts kitchen. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />No action required; for information only. <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />None. <br />Agenda Packet P. 11 <br />
