The 1918 directory shows that her son Josiah (also called Joseph) Mitchell and his wife,
Nettie, lived at 1033 Jefferson under its older address of 532 Jefferson. In 1921 and
1923, her daughter Ethel, and Ethel's husband, Fred Lawrence, were listed as living in
the house, also under the older address of 532 Jefferson.
Robert B. Miller Ownership, 1923-1938
Dr. Robert B. Miller (1884-1949), who purchased 1033 Jefferson in 1923, was a longtime
Louisville physician from the early 1920s until 1945. He and his family are listed in
directories in the 1920s and 1930s as residing at 1033 Jefferson. (His medical offices
were located on Main Street.) The 1930 census showed Robert Miller, his wife Nina, and
their daughter Alice, age 16, all living in the house. According to the 1936 directory six
years later, Alice had become a teacher and was living in the house with her parents.
(The recorded deeds tell a somewhat confusing story for 1923-1924. After Mary Mitchell
sold the property to Miller, he immediately sold it to Leonard Blystad, who owned many
properties in Boulder County. Blystad sold it right back to Miller. Adding to the
confusion, Mary Mitchell executed a second deed in 1924 after Miller was apparently
already the legal owner.)
While still living in Illinois before coming to Louisville, Dr. Miller had served in World
War I. In Louisville, he became one of the founding members of the Walter Rhoades
Post of the American Legion in 1924. This photo that the American Legion Auxiliary
donated to the Museum shows him, and he is also pictured in other Legion photos from
the 1920s and 1930s:
9
In 1938, Miller sold 1033 Jefferson to Frank and Lena Fabrizio.
Frank and Lena Fabrizio Ownership, 1938-1943
Frank Fabrizio (1900-1993) and Lena Malpede Fabrizio (1905-1985) were the next
owners and residents of 1033 Jefferson, and the 1940 census shows them living here
with their son Donald, age five.
