The property owner will remove and replace dead o~- diseased plant <br /> materials immediately with the same type, size and quantity of plant <br /> material as .originally installed. If material is diseased or insect-infected~ <br /> replacement with same species is not advisable unless solution has been <br /> found for disease or infestation. Replacement may not be identical, yet <br /> should provide same form and function: sub.lear to City Staff review and <br /> approval. (S) <br /> B. Avoid replacing landscape materials during the dry winter months between <br /> December and February and in midsummer. (G) <br /> C. Contact the Planning Division for specific time requirements for landscape <br /> material replacement. (G) <br />5.9 Existing Vegetation <br /> <br />Policy: <br />Special attention should be paid to preserving within each commercial <br />development those natural features and vegetation which are significant because <br />of their unique character, history, size, variety, or growth habits. This includes all <br />mature trees greater than 3 inches in diameter and significant understory plants <br />and shrubs. <br /> <br />Standards and Guidelines: <br /> A. Provide an inventory of all existing trees and significant woody vegetation <br /> that identifies size, health, and species and trees to be retained and <br /> removed. (S) The inventory is to be prepared by a botanist, licensed <br /> arborist or landscape architect. (S) <br /> B. Locate site and building improvements to preserve significant natural <br /> vegetation. (G) <br /> C. Preserve and incorporate into the landscape plan, any existing health tree <br /> 6" caliper or larger, and located more than 20 feet from any proposed <br /> building location. (S) Preserve all trees over 24" caliper unless deemed <br /> unhealthy or unsuitable for preservation. (S) <br /> <br />11 <br /> <br /> <br />
